About DPS

The Delaware Photographic Society is one of the oldest camera clubs in the United States and each year sponsors the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography (WIEP), monthly club competitions, local exhibits, instruction, field trips, lectures and other programs.

The Delaware Photographic Society was organized as the Delaware Camera Club on January 31st, 1931, making it one of the oldest camera clubs in the country. The Society was formed to encourage and develop interest in photography. The objectives at that time were to get the best authorities to give lectures on photography; to have discussion groups within the membership to share knowledge, and to arrange an exhibition of photography in Wilmington.

The first Wilmington Salon of Photography was held on January 8, 1934, with 33 monochrome prints from 17 states, the District of Columbia and Hawaii. The DPS became a charter member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) when it was founded later that year.
